Butterflies and African Prints

Welcome to my blog:)
I'm still very new to this and I have no idea what I am doing, obviously.

A walk through the yard and I find this beautiful butterfly, Citrus swallowtail (Papilio demodocus) [on a citrus orange tree]. It looked like it got caught up on a spider web... so I rescued it

Butterflies are a representation of the things I love; animals, nature, art, beauty... peace, fragility? This is pretty much what my blog will be about (and more).

Why are butterflies so beautiful?

It's amazing how beautiful and fragile a butterfly is. Scales are responsible for the colours on a butterfly, beauty from the inside out...
Amazingly, there are about 1319 species of butterflies in Nigeria.butterflies and african prints

She is perched on my pretty self-made "used-to-be" maxi african print skirt (PS: I snipped it with a scissor :)). I used to be creative... well... if you consider scribbling drawings of tornados at the side of your lecture notes creative or drawing a man with a loooong head of head (usually with plasters on it) Nigerian's call it ogor [pronounced uh-guh].
Like this...
I'd love to re-visit my creative side with this blog (at least, i'd try) :)

What does it mean to be African?

I love nature! Admittedly, I'm so African. We love nature. We either do not know this or we do not know how to protect our ecosystem. Neither do we know how to love what's ours. But I'm still so African. Some days I walk excitedly to purchase roast corn from mama born-boy, and eat it like no one is watching.

Other days, I can't even dare eat my meal in a fast food joint because I'm too shy, and someone may be watching. Spontaneity? Is that what they call it? Or split personality? (Does this really exist?). It's not because I'm shy to eat at public, it's usually because I'd appear too awkward when I start to pounce and tear apart the chicken bone. Some of you already know how it hurts when you leave that chicken bone untouched! You stare at it, still salivating as the waiter takes your plate away. Noooooo, oh the humanity! oh the horror!!

...I wish this first post of mine wasn't so spontaneous...

But what does it really mean to be African?Remember when everyone thought people from Africa were backwards and only made good for slaves? What does it mean to be African? Limitless, strong, boundless, originality and an innate technical diversity that only an african exhibits.

I'm very reserved and at the same time, I love to rant and analyse things. This is who I am, and "tell us a little about you" is the most difficult question I sadly have to answer, every now and then. Well at least this time I tried :)

Welcome to my blog :), I hope you'd like it here...

What about you? What is the most difficult question you sadly have to answer? I'm all ears :)

  2. I'm impressed, I have to admit. Seldom do I come across a blog that's both equally educative and interesting, and without a doubt, you've hit the nail on the head. The issue is something which not enough people are speaking intelligently about. I am very happy I found this during my hunt for something relating to this. yahoo mail login
